Type something.
Press any key on your keyboard, or tap the one below. Mechanical keyboards are about feel and sound, so this page lets you hear the difference before you buy.
Your keystrokes appear here.
Pick a switch
The switch under each key decides how a press feels. Choose one and keep typing above: the sound changes to match.
Pick a size
Smaller boards leave room for your mouse and fit on a crowded desk. Larger ones keep every key within reach.
| Layout | Keys | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Full-size | 104 | Desk space. Nothing else. |
| Tenkeyless | 87 | The number pad. |
| 75% | about 84 | The gaps between key groups. |
| 65% | about 68 | The function row, though arrow keys stay. |
| 60% | 61 | Arrow keys and function row, moved to a layer. |
Before you buy
Try before you commit
Switch testers cost a few dollars and show you what a linear, tactile and clicky switch feel like under your fingers.
Hot-swap sockets
If the board lets you pull switches out without soldering, you can change your mind later without buying a new keyboard.
Mind the room
Clicky switches are loud. If you share a space or take calls, choose linear or tactile and add foam inside the case.
